Originated in India, the Sanscrit word for yoga means ‘union’ between mind, body and spirit. It involves the practice of physical movements and poses called ‘asanas’, breathing exercises, relaxation and meditation. But it also reflects a whole approach to life based on positive thinking, love, kindness and compassion. The ultimate goal of yoga is inner transformation and to experience self-enlightenment, to connect with our highest nature and reach ‘samadhi’ or state of unity, thus developing harmony between body, mind and spirit.

Constant practice of yoga leads to several health benefits and transcendental states of consciousness. But in the modern world it is increasingly practised for physical and mental purposes rather than spiritual. If this applies to you, this is absolutely fine, enjoy the practice for whatever positive outcome you wish, whether you are just interested in physical relaxation, better health or inner peace.

Yoga has evolved over thousands of years to embrace a wide range of styles and disciplines. The two styles offered at Shakti Holitics are Sivananda Yoga and Womb Yoga.
